Duskborn
Masters of the night, the Duskborn balance immortal existence with the constant struggle against the hunger within. Their stories are ones of restraint, influence, and the price of eternity.

Understanding the Lineage
Overview
The Duskborn are immortal beings forever suspended between life and death. Neither wholly alive nor truly deceased, they exist within the twilight of existence, sustained by blood and the ancient magic that first gave rise to their lineage.
Though often misunderstood as monsters, the Duskborn are as varied in character as any of the Born. Some become protectors, scholars, physicians, and leaders, while others embrace darker paths.
Their choices, not their nature, define who they become.
Physiology
Nature
The Duskborn possess heightened physical abilities, remarkable regenerative capabilities, and unnaturally long lives. Their bodies no longer age in the traditional sense, allowing them to accumulate centuries of experience.
Blood is the lifeblood of every Duskborn, sustaining both their body and the supernatural power that courses through it. Ordinary food and drink provide little true nourishment.
Extended or intense exposure to sunlight weakens them considerably, limiting their abilities and placing significant strain upon their supernatural nature.
The Long Night
Society
Duskborn society values patience, experience, and responsibility.
Leadership is earned through wisdom, service, and the respect of one's peers rather than simple age alone. While many choose to live quietly among the Hearthborn, others devote themselves to preserving the Veil and maintaining peace between the Born.
Regardless of the path they choose, all Duskborn remain bound by the laws of the Cabal. The eldest often serve as mentors, believing that immortality without purpose inevitably leads to corruption.

The Town
Role in Opaline
The Duskborn often serve as historians, physicians, artists, legal scholars, entrepreneurs, and community leaders.
Their longevity grants perspective unavailable to the other Born, making them invaluable advisors during times of uncertainty.
Many dedicate their long lives to preserving knowledge and maintaining the fragile peace between the lineages.

A Note from Lyra
Eternity comes with a price.
The Duskborn are among Opaline's oldest and most enigmatic residents. If you're drawn to stories of immortality, hidden societies, and the constant struggle between discipline and instinct, you may find the Duskborn to be an excellent choice.
Power is certainly part of being Duskborn—but restraint is just as important. Hunger, age, and influence all mean something when you may have centuries ahead of you.
True strength is not measured by the power you possess... but by the power you choose not to use.
